Summer Pony Camp 2011
REGISTER NOW! Sessions start July 11th (see below, "Session Dates & Times")
Our camp is offered for children 5 years and up, for the first time riders to the intermediate. Campers will learn all aspects of safe horsemanship, stable management, and horse health and care, including grooming, tacking, feeding and caring for horses. Each camper enjoys private riding instructioeach day of camp. A “horse” type craft will be worked on during the afternoon along with other fun activities involved with horses!
Daily:
The campers will have a morning riding lesson. either private or semi-private (1-2 riders, and based on skill level) either in our outdoor arena or along our wooded trails and open meadow, under the direct supervision of our instructors and either hand-led or assisted by side-walkers, if necessary. Campers will rotate through different learning centers exploring hands-on the world of horses and ponies. Children will learn how to tack, halter, cross-tie, groom, lead and communicate with their horse or pony. They will have the opportunity to learn from different stations every morning such as tacking and equipment, parts of horse, health and daily care, feeding, grooming and even training! There are only 6 campers per session, with a minimum of two adult riding instructors plus 4 camp counselors to supervise and guide the children with the all activities. There may be a field trip to a rescue facility and even special appearances from equine professionals, such as a farrier, trainer, or vet!
Afternoon:
Our afternoon may include projects, spending additional time with the horses (non-riding activities), games and sometimes swimming in the inflatable pool (less than 3 ft deep, and under direct supervision at all times), learning how to harness a driving horse, bathing a pony, spending time with the small farm animals, learning about agriculture/life on the farm, or maybe just enjoying popcorn and reading aloud from a classic, like Misty of Chincoteaque or Black Beauty.
Clothing:
Campers need to wear a closed shoe or sneaker and long pants. Shorts, sandals or flip-flops are okay to bring along to change into for non-barn related activities. Swimsuits, towels and sunblock are recommended for afternoon fun in the pool! A baseball cap is helpful in keeping the helmet fitted on the students head and for cleanliness. We provide a snack and beverages everyday.
Lunch:
Campers should bring their own lunch and drink. We do have a refrigerator and a microwave for campers' use.
Parents
We have an "Open Door" policy! Parents are welcome to observe any day, any time! We ask that you please be respectful of our drop off and pick up times, and we thank you in advance for your understanding. If your camper is ill, or there is an emergency, we will allow for a make up day the following camp week or at another time that is convenient.
